“Emelia has furthered our mission of creating an inclusive community at the University of Massachusetts through her involvement in the African Graduate Student Association and UMass chapter of Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS) as well the ways in which she lead efforts to further diversity in STEM through mentoring and promoting aspiring scientists. Beyond this, she is working nationally to ensure a diverse science future through her work with the Education and Outreach committee of the Entomological Society of America. Internationally, her work with her foundation, EKO Global, to elevate female scientists in Africa and inspire a new generation of women to enter into the sciences is commendable and inspiring”
Emelia alongside Mateo Rull Garza were invited as speakers for the Massachusetts Ag Day to share their journey and inspire Future Farmers of America (FFA) students at the State House. (2025)
Emelia served as UMass MANRRS student delegate at the 2025 NASDA Winter Policy Conference, representing Massachusetts, Northeast region alongside the State Commissioners of Agriculture and other representatives.
Emelia led and co-organized outreach reaching over 1,200 high school students in underprivileged communities in Ghana. (2023)
Emelia hosts STEM professionals from diverse backgrounds to share their research and experiences and address social issues around STEM education and youth empowerment. (2023-Present)
Emelia led and co-executed a STEM mentorship program for African women, and built a network of professionals to serve as mentors. (2024-2025)
Emelia co-developed an inclusive STEM curriculum with the Adler lab for Eureka! after-school program for elementary and middle school students from underrepresented backgrounds. (2022-Present)
Emelia led and co-organized career fair in collaboration with the UMass Amherst MANRRS E-board. The career fair featured keynote speakers including Ashley E. Randle (Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources) and Stephon Fitzpatrick (National President of MANRRS), along with industry and academic professionals, to connect with students and foster professional development.
